The new position is an illustration of the commitment the Pierre du Bois Foundation has to the advancement of historical research and teaching at the Graduate Institute.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"entry-content description clearfix\">\n<p>The first holder of the Chair was Professor Michael Goebel, from 2018 to 2021. Since September 2021, he has been the Einstein Professor of Global History at Freie Universit\u00e4t Berlin. Prior to joining the Institute in 2018, Michael Goebel was Associate Professor of Global History at Freie Universit\u00e4t Berlin. His latest book, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.cambridge.org\/us\/academic\/subjects\/history\/twentieth-century-european-history\/anti-imperial-metropolis-interwar-paris-and-seeds-third-world-nationalism?format=HB\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><em>Anti-Imperial Metropolis: Interwar Paris\u00a0<\/em><em>and the Seeds of Third World Nationalism,<\/em><\/a> was published by Cambridge University Press in 2015.\u00a0 The book examines the relationship between nationalist movements and their leaders many of whom spent their intellectually formative years in European centers. Additionally, the book won the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.historians.org\/awards-and-grants\/past-recipients\/jerry-bentley-prize-recipients\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Jerry Bentley Prize in World History<\/a> from the American Historical Association in 2016.<\/p>\n<p>Michael Goebel began as an intellectual historian of Latin America, but he has grown increasingly interested in the intersection of global and urban history in the nineteenth and twentieth centuries.\u00a0In July 2014 he received his\u00a0<em>Habilitation<\/em>\u00a0in Modern History. In 2012\u201313 he was a John F. Kennedy Fellow at the Center for European Studies at Harvard University and in 2008\u201311 Marie Curie Fellow at the European University Institute, Florence. The latter led to his first book titled <em><a href=\"http:\/\/books.google.de\/books?id=dUqz24zeWmUC&amp;printsec=frontcover&amp;source=gbs_ge_summary_r&amp;cad=0#v=onepage&amp;q&amp;f=false#v=onepage&amp;q&amp;f=false\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Argentina\u2019s Partisan Past: Nationalism and the Politics of History\u00a0<\/a><\/em>published in 2011 by\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.liverpooluniversitypress.co.uk\/index.php?option=com_wrapper&amp;view=wrapper&amp;Itemid=11&amp;AS1=argentina%27s+partisan+past\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Liverpool University Press<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>His articles on the history of migration and the global history of nationalism have appeared in journals such as\u00a0<em><a href=\"https:\/\/academic.oup.com\/ahr\/article-abstract\/121\/5\/1444\/2750772\/The-Capital-of-the-Men-without-a-Country-Migrants\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">The American Historical Review<\/a><\/em>,\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/past.oxfordjournals.org\/content\/208\/1\/191.extract\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><em>Past and Present<\/em><\/a>, and\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.v-r.de\/en\/magazine_edition-0-0\/geschichte_und_gesellschaft_2011_37_4-1009267\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><em>Geschichte und Gesellschaft<\/em><\/a>.
